THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING SPECIAL?

Dear Friends of ITEM,

This report is not going to bring you to the edge of your seat but it is the start of a potentially strategic week that I’ll tell you about later in the report. Feel free to skip to the bottom if you want to but be warned, if you do you will miss a ferry tale.

This was an easy day but ended up being much longer than I expected.

THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT (MAYFIELD TO LOTFA)

After lunch I went to the airport with no traffic and not much commotion at the airport. I got checked in, went to the (smaller) lounge for an hour then boarded the plane for the 45-minute flight to Mombasa. More on Mombasa in a moment.

The seminar coordinator, Dalmas (a new contact for me, Nathan met him previously, and I’ll be telling you more about him as the week goes on) met me and off we went….and went….and went…then we got into a ferry-boat-line and waited and waited and waited for the fairy to show up. It took us to “the other side” and we drove more…..and more….and more then arrived at the Lotfa Resort. I landed in Mombasa at 3:30 and checked into my hotel about 3 1/2 hours later.

JUST IN CASE!

A stock picture of the ferry is in the picture album. I found it on the internet. It was the first time I’ve ever crossed a body of water in a car on a ferry. I looked at all of the cars and thought, “What if the ferry starts sinking? What will I do?” I had my escape all planned!

MOMBASA

Mombasa is a coastal town. It is a vacation spot for many. But what I noticed immediately was the number of Muslim women on the streets and all of the mosques. Up to 11% of the population of Mombasa are Muslim. There are also Hindus along with those who claim Christianity as their religion.

THE UPCOMING SEMINAR (BEGINS TUESDAY)

The seminar is going to be “way back there (40 mins?) from where I am staying.” But there were no accommodations with AC “back there” and with this heat and humidity I requested AC. The conference coordinator has his own training ministry and says he is working with over 200 rural pastors. So this could be a strategic seminar and he could well be a very strategic contact. If we can prepare him to train those 200 rural pastors that would be significant. I hope to get a testimony from him to put in print or even video.

Like I said, it is hot and humid here. Right now it is 84 at 845pm.

THE KEY TO AVOIDING MONKEY BUSINESS

I was told by the receptionist here at the Lotfa Resort Hotel to keep my balcony door closed at night or I might be visited by local monkeys who will think nothing of coming into my room to see what I have in my luggage.

If you are interested in seeing where I am staying here is a link (I think): https://www.hotels.com/ho730235104/lotfa-resort-diani-mombasa-and-vicinity-kenya/?pos=HCOM_EMEA&locale=en_IE&rffrid=sem.hcom.EM.google.003.00.04.s.kwrd=c.304776162677.65629231371.1580689632.1t1.dsa-590688527951.1009824..0.Cj0KCQjwnpXmBRDUARIsAEo71tR2LoUxWzXGBlFD5iTIjwjMzHSUz-w6AAcYY12Oew6IPidMw44fH48aAp9-EALw_wcB.aw.ds&PSRC=AFF05&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnpXmBRDUARIsAEo71tR2LoUxWzXGBlFD5iTIjwjMzHSUz-w6AAcYY12Oew6IPidMw44fH48aAp9-EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

It is only $40 a night for bed and breakfast. A really nice provision!

That’s it for Sunday. I pray your had a worshipful day in the Lord!

By His grace,

Steve
