Pre-Travel Diary: Leaving for Africa on January 11th

Dear ITEM Family,

I will be leaving Portland around 9:30am on Wednesday making my way back to Africa. My first stop will be Nairobi, Kenya. I will be delivering another 200-plus-pounds of books from my personal library to my friends at International Leadership University. It was knows as Nairobi International School of Theology when I taught there as an adjunct prof from 1998-2003. This seemed to be the logical place to donate my library to since this is where my mission work and the idea for ITEM started.

APOLOGETICS and TEAM MEETINGS
While in Nairobi, I will be conducting my first apologetics seminar on Saturday Jan 14 and a shortened seminar after church on Jan 15. On Jan 16 I will move on to Bujumbura, Burundi for a meeting with our team there. I’ll return to Nairobi on the 17th and on the 18th I’ll fly to Antananarivo, Madagascar. Covid essentially put an end to ITEM’s ministry there and that was followed up by the unfortunate death of the ITEM Coordinator, Julien Mvemba several months ago. In Madagascar we will be reorganizing and plan the way forward for ITEM-Madagascar.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY
Sandee Cnossen, ITEM’s Women’s Ministry Director will be on this trip as well. She will be teamed up with a Kenyan woman when we arrive in Nairobi. And the two of them will meet with other African women in Nairobi, Kisumu (Kenya), and Busia, Uganda before Sandee and I will re-connect on our return trip beginning Jan 20.

Please pray for safe travels, good health, and fruitful ministry during the trip.
