Hi Everyone,
It’s bedtime in Uganda and my first speaking event is Monday morning at 11:30am close by. So, let me give you a quick review of the day and explain the title to this post.
My flight from Nairobi to Kampala, Uganda was scheduled for 2:15. But before I left for the airport I got a message that it was delayed to 4pm. I delayed my departure for the airport a bit but arrived well ahead of the departure time. Then came near-miss number 1.
At the check in counter they wanted to see my Uganda visa. Well, I applied online near the end of February, and received approval in early March. But without even thinking about it, I printed up my application, NOT the e-visa. What to do? Luckily, my phone has email dating back that far and I was able to do a search and find it. Whew! So, I went to the lounge.
The original boarding time for the 4pm flight was 3:15. I headed to the gate only to see it was delayed until 4:35. So, I went back to the lounge where the nice receptionist said she would find me and let me know when they started boarding.
I was watching the board with departures listed and mine just said, delayed to 4:35pm. The other flights departing about the same time was showing “Now boarding.” Mine just said delayed until 4:35. I kept watching the board. 4pm, 4:10, 4:15 and still it read “delayed to 4:35,” then 4:20, 4:30, 4:35 and suddenly it read “Last Call.” I rushed to the receptionist, she looked at her computer, and said, “Yes, head to the gate.” I rushed back to grab my stuff, and hustled to the gate (luckily it was hear by) and waved at the guys there. I got to the gate, one was kind, the other wasn’t. I was the last to board. Whew number two.
But, I made it. Two close calls but like I said, “All’s Well That Ends Well.” There is another famous one: Three strikes and you’re out! I stopped at two.
The flight was a short one hour. Our missionary, Jim Glasscock, was waiting for me. We stopped for dinner and then came to where I’ll be all week. Tomorrow I will be speaking to a group from Apologetics Uganda on a couple of apologetics themes. I’ll have more to day about it tomorrow.
I have a special prayer request, aside from a normal one (pray for the meeting tomorrow, for my communication and the groups understanding and retention). The new on is for next week, starting the 30th. My host is still trying to piece together an speaking schedule. Right now I am scheduled to speak three times but only about an hour each time, in five days in Nigeria. Pray that God will open more doors. Thanks.
